About MinecraftCalc

MinecraftCalc is a free, fan-built enchantment planner for Minecraft Java Edition. It computes a lower-cost anvil order so you avoid the dreaded “Too Expensive!” cap and save tens of XP levels per piece of gear.

How accurate is the math?

The calculator core is a TypeScript port of the open-source SJAR04/Minecraft-Enchanter (MIT license). It implements the documented anvil cost formula - including base enchantment cost, prior-work penalty 2^n - 1, and the level-40 “Too Expensive!” cap on survival mode. The live calculator is scoped to Java Edition planning with current spear and mace enchantment data; it does not claim to simulate Bedrock, modded, datapack, or snapshot rules.
